The corset ordering process

Please allow plenty time for your fittings. It should be an enjoyable part of the process as you'll see your outfit come together. Pinning will be required! so I'd recommend you wear something like a close fitting vest top rather than your best silk camisole. Also, a well fitting bra. Make sure you eat a light meal or snack a little while before attending your fitting.

I want to make the creation of your corset as easy and enjoyable as I can.Ordering a bespoke garment should be a special experience as it's a traditional way of clothing ourselves which we don't indulge in very often now.

Consultation - First meeting

When you first contact me we'll arrange a meeting to discuss what you would like. I'm based near Glasgow city centre, a stone's throw from the BBC & STV buildings and easy for bus, car or subway. If it suits you better, I'm happy to come to you for fittings if required for a small additional charge (please note I'm on the second floor with no lift so please let me know if that will cause access difficulties for you). If you have any pictures that inspire you then please have them with you, and if you already have a fabric you'd like to use (to match another item of clothing for instance) then please have that too so I can see it it's suitable for use in a corset.

At that first meeting we'll hopefully decide on your basic style and I'll take detailed measurements which I'll use to make a calico mock-up for your first fitting. I'll require a deposit at this point.

Mock-up fitting - Second meeting

At the second meeting we'll fit the mock-up and discuss any alterations to the style and any extras you may wish.

Depending on how many alterations to the mock-up are required we may or may not require a second mock-up and fitting. If so we'll arrange it then. If not I'll start the construction of your corset.

Collection

When the corset is complete I'd ideally like to meet to check everything is ok when it's on. The balance of payment will be due when your corset and any associated items are delivered to you.

Payment

It's tricky to detail exact prices for custom corsets before discussing your requirements. For one thing, I don't think it's fair that everyone can see what your corset cost you. Your privacy is very important to me. A guideline to prices is detailed on the About our corsets page but of course prices can vary greatly depending on style, extras etc. The final price will be agreed at the beginning (unless you request massive changes mid-process) and I'm quite happy to take payment in up to four instalments. I require a deposit on the first meeting to partially cover materials costs. After that, you may pay in, up to, another three instalments as long as the balance is fully paid when your receive your corset.

Please note: Unlike some corsetmakers I do not charge more for larger sizes as I regard this as a very unfair practice.

Time periods

A corset is a fairly labour intensive item to produce, so please allow adequate time for fittings, any materials that require ordering etc. I will do my utmost to help you out with any specific dates - for instance performances, weddings, proms, special occasions - but please, please be realistic. Designing, fitting, and custom-making a corset in a week really isn't possible.

Confidentiality

Your measurements and information will remain completely confidential. Photographs of your custom item will only be made public with your permission. Likewise, if you choose to send me pictures of you wearing the item - I'll be delighted - but will only use them publicly if you give me permission to do so. Of course, your payment information is safely protected by Paypal should you pay online. In person, cash or cheques are preferable. Sorry, I can't accept cards but there is a cashline machine directly opposite my studio.

Distance Orders

I'm happy to take distance orders if you feel comfortable taking measurements and fitting the mock-up yourself. Although I prefer to meet you in person as there is no substitute for personal fitting. Please note, if you choose to order from a distance then the responsibility for the measurements and fitting being correct is yours. I can only ensure the corset matches your adjusted mock-up. I will also require digital photographs from all angles to help me assess fit.

Please return your mock-up within 28 days of receipt or you will lose your place in the order queue for an indeterminate period.

Postage

The customer will be liable for postage charges for distance custom orders. Recorded or Special Delivery is required for security. It is recommended overseas customers put RETURN on their package when returning a mock-up.

Returns

No returns are possible on custom items. Other, non-customised, items can be returned within 14 days but postage will be at your expense. Except knickers and bloomers, I'm unable to accept returns of these.
