Designer and owner, Alison Campbell is based in Glasgow. Trained in graphics and fine art, Alison was looking for a more satisfying creative outlet when her love of sewing, corsets, vintage fashion, history, burlesque and classic glamour all came together. Alison had designed and sewn since making dolls clothes as a child. She always loved embroidery particularly and may be one of the few people to have even embroidered a poster for a college graphics project!

A few years ago a brainwave led to the creation of a personalised, embroidered wedding garter for a friend who was leaving to go abroad. " Buying a gift made no sense as she was leaving the country, and an envelope of money seemed so cold. The garter was something for her wedding day, small enough to take with her and could be packaged in a box with the money we were giving her, making it less impersonal. Looking around I realised there was nothing in the shops equal to most girl's dream dress. It seemed criminal to put tacky, cheap lace under a beautiful dress. So I made one."

One led to another and another and eventually a shop on Etsy. That craft based US venue had it's drawbacks however and isn't really suitable for the growing corsetry side of the business. This site allows both those elements to be brought together.

Crikey Aphrodite has been gathering increasing attention. Two of Alison's designs are scheduled to be featured in a forthcoming book on lingerie and some will also be used this year in a fairly high profile photoshoot. Alison is happy to discuss any ideas or requirements you may have. Crikey Aphrodite also appear at some fairs and markets in the Glasgow area - keep an eye on the news page or sign up for the mailing list to find out when and where
